I Really Dislike/Like living in Utah County!

So I need to Vent! I hate that every time there is a good sale if you don't get there the first day, first thing in the morning that there is none left. I went to Target today and they were out of diapers and then I went to Krispy Kreme and of course they didn't have any of the Valentines cards. This happens to me all of the time. I have kids, a job, and I am going to school. I do not have time to go back to stores multiple times. Why can't the stores learn and stock more product? I like to support local business but I think I am just going to start shopping in Salt Lake County! It is time to move somewhere else and coupon so I am in the minority instead of one of the masses!

Amen, Christi! It is out of control! I usually have to wait until about half way through the week I have a little more luck then. Good luck, don't give up!

It can be very frustrating when you aren't able to get sale items the first time you try. Ask when the store should be getting more of the item in, or for a rain check. Most of the grocery stores will restock Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Try one of the days that is not the start of the sale. Also remember, sales come and go, but there will always be another awesome deal.

I've been a savvy shopper since before Amy even started and I would have to say that my biggest complaint along this subject is the fact that all of you receive multiple copies of the paper and thus multiple copies of the coupons. Honestly I think that is unfair to everyone else. No wonder the stores can't keep anything in stock. I have always gotten just one copy of the paper because I have found it a pain to keep track of so many coupons. But over the last year since the recession happened, there are so many people doing this, I am hardly ever able to find any of the good deals. I think it's more important to share the wealth instead of trying to hog all the good deals. I am happy if I am able to get one or two free items every once in awhile. Nothing is more frustrating than seeing someone at the store with 10 copies of coupons for an item and their cart completely full with none left for anyone else. I especially feel sorry for these moms who really need to save money and are time starved because they are trying to work and go to school all while raising a family. Let's learn to share everyone!!

I totally agree! There are too many hoarders out there. I get 3 newspapers and feel that is plenty for our family of 4. I remember a while back when Albertsons had a deal on Kraft BBQ sauce when you actually made money off it and people were saying they got 30 bottles and I thought to myself, honestly who needs 30 bottles of BBQ sauce?? Who are you feeding?? What are you making?? Seriously!! Everything in moderation! I've lived in a couple different counties in Utah and I would have to say Utah County and Cache County are the absolute worst to try and coupon shop in! I've totally noticed an increase in couponers since the recession, hopefully someday it will go back to normal and us die hards can continue with our couponing

Albertson's has done a great job at making sure plenty of sale items are in stock. I wish all stores did that. Target stocks so few items that it is almost impossible to get anything on sale there. One time I went at 8:00 on a Monday morning, right when they opened to try to get electrosol on sale. They were completely out. I think that is because I don't shop on Sunday, all of the Sunday shoppers get an advantage. There was only room for probably five boxes in their little sale slot on the shelf anyway. I have just learned to be happy with the things I can find. I LOVE living in Utah County because there are so many stores to choose from and we are close to everything. There are a lot more couponing ladies (and old men) out there and if we all just take what we really need then there will be enough for everyone. It may not be this particular sale, but another sale will come around soon.

I don't believe this is a Utah County issue. It is an individual store issue. Target, Walgreens, and Rite Aid are the worst, but if you want the product bad enough you have to make it a priority. I also work full time, have 4 children, and love to coupon shop. I don't seem to have a problem and if I miss a sale item I just have to remember there is always going to be another good buy out there!! I love living in Utah County... everything is close by which makes shopping even easier for me!!

I've been doing this for almost 18 years now - believe it or not
- so I understand the frustrations of stores being out of product. However, it is rare that I can't get the product I need with a rain check or stores restocking. I actually think several stores in Utah County re-stock more that other areas in efforts to meet the demands for all shoppers. I hate to say it, but the SLC stores run out as well. They may not run as fast, but that's because it's a larger market area with a lot more stores available. (I'm hoping Smith's will step up and either order more product to stock quicker or issue rainchecks for promo items at the end of the sale.) I agree that there has been a MASSIVE increase in the amount of couponers due to the economy, but I also believe that every couponer is doing what they can for their families in the time and with the money available to them. They are time crunched and wallet strapped like everyone else - they've just figured out what works for them to help their family. There will always be those who miss out on sales regardless of couponers. So while I totally agree that you don't need to hoard (It wastes money if you buy products you can't use before they expire), I would say the majority of couponers don't. We live in a unique market for sure. With larger than average family size and food storage/self reliance incorporated into many homes, you'd expect people to buy more, but only to meet family needs.
I LOVE UTAH COUNTY!!!

I sometimes feel this frustration too and I went to Smith's (Provo) late last night fully expecting to have this experience. What I saw was a store that had pallets at the end of every aisle full of boxes to stock of most of the WOW deals on sale there this week. When I couldn't find the item on the shelf I would walk to the pallets and ask someone to open a box for me. Granted if I would have gone early this morning (when they had stocked them on the shelves) I wouldn't have had to ask for them to open boxes (or open them myself) but what I was glad to see was the store and company being aware of the hot ticket items and having stock of them.
I think it will get better. I am never shy to stop and talk to the manager &/or assistant manager in the stores I shop at regularly. They are trying and need feedback to pass on through their corporate chain.

I agree with asking for help - even at Rite Aid, there has been times where the manager has gone in the back and found a box of items. It never hurts to ask!

I completely agree w/everything AMY said! I also wanted to add that there a also a lot of people that don't do coupons & will still buy cartfuls of stuff that's on sale when it's a good deal!
You win some, you lose some.. but there will always be another sale. I live in UT county also & love it. I think SLC is worse. My cousins up there will sometimes come shop down here because it's so bad up there!! I guess it just depends!

Been there & done that SEVERAL times! I agree that it is VERY frustrating when you go to a store for a certain product and they are out of stock. I also think some people are inconsiderate in what they take. Sometimes I wish stores would put a limit on the number of sale items you can get. However, some things that help me are:
1. Knowing when your store re-stocks (I usually go early that morning and haven't had problems getting what I wanted).
2. Calling the store ahead of time to see if they are out of an item I really want, then I don't waste a trip and have added frustration.
3. Knowing I can always price match it at Wal-Mart (they typically have the item & usually it's already marked down). The only bad thing is the deals where stores give you the automatic $ amount off (ex: Smith's Mega event $5). You also have to know the exact price, can't be listed buy one get one or 50% off items.
4. Realizing that the sale will come around again and sometimes for a better deal.
5. Once you get stocked up on items, you won't have to hit every sale. HTH

I love running into other couponers like me! If I have a question about something, I know I can always ask someone carrying around a big ol' coupon binder, and they can usually help! I've had people share coupons with me in the aisles, and vice versa. Or we can talk in line at the checkout if there's a wait. It's kind of nice having something in common with perfect strangers!

There may be lots of "couponers" here in Utah County, but I have found that because of that stores actually can better serve me. I've found that the employees in the stores that are in really high couponed areas actually go out of there way to help me. I've had lots of employees offer to hunt down an item for me, look in the back, give me a rain check with out me even asking, stop me and tell me where some really great clearance items are located, tell me of an even better deal on a similar product, they've offered to help my husband shop when they see him wandering around with a list and stack of coupons
, they know how to correctly accept and ring up coupons without all the hastle that you get in non-couponed areas, and the list goes on. So anyways, my two sense is: get to know the employees at the stores you shop often and support stores that cater to couponers.
