Title: Preparedness Board!
Post by: SavvyShopper on September 19, 2006, 03:51:32 PM
:hello2: :hello2: :hello2:    I am so excited to reintroduce our Preparedness Board to all our Savvy Shoppers!  :hello2: :hello2: :hello2:

     I was approached at the Taste of Home Cooking School by an AMAZING company called Prospering Families.  They are a company with years of preparedness training, expertise and programs geared to help empower users  to maintain their quality of life during a crisis.  Lisamiut, (a co-owner) has agreed to be our Preparedness Moderator and share with us some essential tools to having a prepared pantry!  I am so excited to have her with us!    WELCOME!!

Thanks for the intro!  I am so excited to share the deals I find that will help people become more prepared.  I strongly encourage people to become more prepared for any time of need - I have had health issues the past year that have kept me from shopping on a regular basis and my "prepared pantry" has saved my family!  I had a friend that needed her "prepared pantry" when her husband lost his job.  This will be a great forum to share deals and ideas we all have.

Title: Why be prepared and HOW?
Post by: lisamiut on September 19, 2006, 11:17:31 PM
You know, being prepared isn't just about the natural disasters.  Everyone should have food on hand in their "prepared pantries" to cover those unexpected times in our lives.

* loss of job
* unexpected health crises
* unexpected guests (the mother-in-law drop in - ugh!)
* unexpected family emergencies
* hopefully not, but unexpected deaths

The concept of a "Prepared Pantry" is one where you have a pantry that has all ingredients you need on hand (except perishables) to make the top 20-30 meals your family eats in one month - this includes breakfasts, lunches and dinners.  Then, once you have that shopping list prepared and ready to go, you keep your eyes on the Savvy Shopper Deals emails and website and use the Shopping Wizard to help you get those items into your pantry at great prices and stock up for 1 month - 1 year!  I was able to get about 6 months worth of food food items within about 6 months by using these techniques.  Now that I have these items, I can not shop as often (but what fun is that  ;)) or focus in on other items to purchase for becoming more prepared (such as equipment) that may not go on sale.

Just wanted to add - our new moderator came to us from another "good deal" website and is getting a lot of grief for it.  So, let's make sure she feels welcome here!  We at the Daily Herald welcome EVERYONE to our site in a non-competitive atmosphere.  Unlike some sites, we encourage you to search out the bests deals wherever you may find them!  We want you all to feel comfortable being here (registered members or unregistered guests).  We know you are ALL benefiting from the great deals posted on this site!  :toothy12:

Welcome! This was the one thing this site was lacking!!!! I am all for having at least a one year food supply in your pantry! We have had to use our "food supply" more times than I had hoped to, but life happens and it is a great feeling to be prepared.
