An effective 72 hour kit consists of 3 parts:
- Individual backpacks for each person
- Food for each person
- Equipment for the family
I will start 3 stickys that talk about each part and then update those threads as I see deals that you can use for your kits.
Feel free to ask questions - this is such an individual preference on how one goes about getting the supplies and where they store them. Hurricane Katrina was an excellent example of how those 72 hour kits came in handy for those who evacuated. Unfortunately for many of them it was several weeks before they got back into their homes (if they even had a home) but the 72 hour kit was a good start. The hope is that one NEVER has to use these, but even yesterday, homes were evacuated by the Point of the Mountain here in Utah due to a fire. I wonder how many people grabbed their kits?
