I'm new, and I see the benefits of saving coupons to use for grocery shopping, but when the sales come out for local grocery stores, how do you know if they are really a better deal than heading to the local walmart?

I would rather go to just one place to buy all my stuff, and half the time when I've looked through the paper to find a good deal on a grocery item, Walmart has usually had the better price anyway.  I guess it could be what I buy... I don't know?

What items have you found to be a better grocery deal than Walmart.  I think there has been one big time when I stock piled on canned vegetables at Albertsons instead of Walmart...  HELP!  What items should I look for to stock pile on?

I have found that the more you watch the deals of other stores, you start to remember how low of a price you got it for, and what you are willing to pay for an item.  Many of these other stores put great deals on the front/back of their ads, which are known as loss-leaders, to get you in the store.  I have found these prices to be significantly lower than Walmarts everyday price.

You also loose out on any catalina deals or instant rebates that other stores offer if you don't want to take the time to shop around.  (for example, the cereal/milk deal this week at Albertsons you could not get at Walmart).

It really is up to you whether or not it is worth the trip to another store to get a particular item, but I have found for me and my family, that being willing to go to more than one store really pays off.  You are able to stockpile on a variety of items, depending on what the deals are for the week (watch Amy's emails and use the shopping wizard to know what deals go with what coupons).

Cara is right!  You should start tracking your prices for products so that you know what your best price is.  I used to shop a lot at Walmart but have learned that many times the sizes or brands that are on sale are not available at Walmart.

I agree that shopping at one store is a better deal in the sense that you don't want to waste gas but I find that by following Amy's emails and utilizing the Shopping Wizard, you will learn that shopping this way WILL save you more money than shopping at Walmart on a regular basis.

I would also try to attend Amy's beginning coupon class (next one in Orem on September 6).  She does an excellent job explaining how this program works and why not exclusively shopping at any one store can work and really help your food budget.
