I want to can pears this year, but I have no reference as to what a good price is or even which growers/suppliers are the best.  Is it cheaper to buy by the pound or by the bushel?  TIA for any help, ideas, tips, etc!!

I usually can find good prices like under $0.50/lb for canning fruit.  There are places where they will let you come and pick up windfall fruit off the ground for around $0.20/lb, but I've never done that.  Call around to your local farmer's markets and check Craig's list www.craigslist.com in your area to find some other good deals.

Enjoy canning!

Copied the below add from the daily herald - I would just keep checking there and calling on a few to check prices - you can find these types of adds in the classified section - I just look them up online
