I am going to a lia sophia convention in Detroit in January and I need to find a cheap flight.  I know absolutely nothing about airlines, prices etc.  I have heard Southwest is usually the cheapest so I have been checking them out.  I also don't know if places like priceline.com or travelocity.com really do get you a better deal.  I would really love any advice.  Of course I don't want to spend a penny more then I have too.  TIA!!

The last time we flew was for my hubby's Masters grad and went with Jet Blue.  They were the least expensive and we really enjoyed our experience (other than having to land unexpectedly and our flight turn into a red eye due to a passengers medical problems Tongue).

A great site to check out that I love is www.airfarewatchdog.com  I get their emails about once a week. You don't have to get the emails you can just put in what airport you are leaving from and they will show you all the good deals. They don't show everything, just the good deals and what airline to get them from.

you can download a thing called ding fares off southwest.com and set it to certain airports you want to fly to, it gives special really cheap rates sometimes if you watch a certain airport but the price is only good for a limited amt of hours which it would tell you when the ding fare pulls up on your screen - its a downloadable software to your computer, you can pickup some good fares this way, but it is hit or miss as you hopw to find that good deal before you need to go, its worth a shot though - the prices that come across are better than the internet deals you see online
