Do NOT store your 72 hour kits in the garage.  I had our backpacks hanging up on the wall and discovered last Saturday that I was sharing two of my kits with a family of mice!  They had eaten through the food kits and shredded all the clothing and paper items to make quite the nice home.  UGH!!!!  The kits were ruined, the bags were soaked through - the only things I didn't lose were the toiletries that were in outside pockets in Ziploc bags.  So, moral of the story, don't store those items out in the garage.

One garage solution---Store in an airtight plastic bin--works for us.
