Oreos are a SURVIVAL item in my world!

WWW
« on: March 31, 2008, 03:12:16 PM »

I was at my local Smith's store in Pleasant Grove and saw them stocking up for their annual case lot sale.  There were no prices listed yet, but it looked like the traditional canned goods and boxed goods are included.  I will post the deals here when the ad comes out.

I NEVER met a sale I didn't like!

Has anyone seen a caselot sale or a good deal that includes the canned potatoes? We love using them around here!

I love them too!  Cheapest I've seen them is $0.50 a can at Assoc. Foods (Maceys), But not currently.

Payson Smith's is pretty wiped out of product.  They say they sold more in the first day than in the entire week of their last case lot.  I know many stores are out of quite a bit.  Most stores will be getting a load late tonight which will be stocked by Sat. morning.

It seems everyone is getting nervous about possible trucker strikes, oil prices etc. raising the price of food.  You should definitely get the good deals, but this isn't Y2K, IMO-In My Opinion).  If you are prepared, there shouldn't be a need to worry!  If you're not already prepared and just starting, relax and get what you need, but don't overload if you can't use what you're buying before it expires.

Also, Walmart always has the canned potatoes (Whole and sliced) for 50 cents a can. That is where I get them currently.

What do you use them for?  When I was growing up my mom always made hashbrowns out of them, but I haven't had them for ever.  I am sure there are other things to do with them.

I was at the PG Smiths at 5 pm on Wednesday and was shocked at how much was gone from the shelves with the case lot sale.  As Amy said, this really isn't a really fantastic sale that you absolutely need to stock up, but if you need any of the products, they are great prices.  Remember, sales always come around so don't panic.

I use the canned potatoes for a few different things. I am all about "One Pot Meals". I have a skillet Chicken parmesan and potatoes recipe that uses them. I add them to many Bear Creek soup mixes to bulk it up. They are also great for what we call hash at my house: eggs, bacon or ham, cheese, potatoes, and whatever else looks good in the fridge all cooked together in the same skillet. They really just need to be heated up, not cooked, so they are very fast to cook with. Also great for Kielbasa, saerkraut (sp), and potatoes. Great for food storage, something kids will actually eat.

Does anyone know if any Smiths have the 20 lb bag of Rice still?  I really need some and in my opinion it is the yummiest sticky rice there is! ONLY kind I use.

You'll have to call around.  Payson was gone within 6 hours of shipment.
