If you subscribe to our Savvy Shopper Sunday Multiple Daily Herald Newpaper Package or even get extra papers from friends or family, you are receiving multiple coupon inserts (ie.. Valassis, Smart Source and P&G).

No one wants to cut these coupons out one at a time!!!  The best and most efficient way I have found to cut out multiple manufacturers coupons is as follows:

icon_thumright  Separate all copies of each same insert by page ( ie.. separate all the Valassis into piles and then Smart Source etc...) and stack them on top of each other (I sit on the floor spread eagle and separate my pages into like piles).

icon_thumright  Cut all the same page at one time, gripping your stack tightly.  This makes it so you are cutting only once!!!

icon_thumright  Make sure they line up - sometimes you will get some from a different printing and you'll need to adjust the alignment.

Thanks for the link!

I also separate by page and then cut! I sit "spread eagle" on the floor and separate each insert into piles!

The only hang up I have found with stapling each coupon is that you have to "Unstaple" each coupon before you can use them.  It definitely saves time to sort and cut once.  If you want to staple to hold the pages together I would staple on the edges you will be cutting off!

Thanks Again!  Great Visual! Holy Cow - that is a ton of coupons!

Nice link.  I have found that I don't need to staple the coupons as long as I am not cutting more then 5 inserts at a time (which is very rare for me).  If I get a few extra inserts from friends or family they tend to slip if they are not stapled.  So I either staple them or split them into two piles.

I am pretty new at this, but I had an aching hand after last Sunday, so I went out and got one of those rolling cutters from a craft store.  I haven't tried it yet, but I hope it cuts down on the hand stress this week.

Not to try and sound haughty, but I use a paper cutter.  I save TONS of time and can cut right along the line so that they fit nicely in the binder.  Just 4 swipes with the cutter and I'm done with each stack. When I DO have to use scissors to be a closer cut or for some other reason, I make sure I use the Fiskar spring loaded scissors. This is SO much easier on the hand when you're cutting out a bunch.
The paper cutter is well worth the investment. I'd much rather spend my time cutting rather than clipping.  Smiley

I love using my wrapping paper cutter for my 5 papers each week!  I much prefer it to using scissors!

I too use a paper cutter. And you're right it does seem faster to me. I sometimes even slide the pages down about 1/4 of an inch so that I can see that the lines of the coupons line up. Because sometimes the printer will print them 'off'. I've put them together before and just cut and then found that I cut through a coupons bar code because it wasn't printed the same as the others.

I too use my "guillotine" paper cutter (tendonitis makes scissors a difficult thing).  I have also found that stapling the individual Q's to be immensely helpful.  Not only does it keep them from sliding around while you are chopping, but it is also nice to have them all together when I'm sorting, putting away and discarding (once they've expired).  I'm pretty sure no two people cut their coupons in exactly the same way.
