I really want to start a veg./fruit garden but am at a loss as where to start! What grows in Utah (provo area)? Is it too late to start now that it's June? And also I live in a small apartment so how do I do it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Smiley Smiley

If you live near Provo, I believe there is an Extension Service office in the city offices' down on . . . about Center and 100 East (I think).  I think it is in the same building as the vehicle registration office.

I think they can do a soil sample test, a water evaluation, and give you ideas on where to plant.

I also, think around University Parkway (not Avenue) and 400 East in Orem (basically across the Parkway from Honey Baked Ham) I think there is a water conservancy office and they can show you what plants grow best in this climate.

I'm not a gardener but I think those are resources I've heard of.  Thanks.

Tomatoes, string beans, cucumbers, pumpkins, watermelons, lettuces, strawberries, raspberries, peas (might be a little late to start planting), corn... and I'm sure many other things grow well here.  Just find a spot that gets at least 6 hrs of full sun each day, mix a little compost or potting soil in where you'll be planting and make sure to keep the plants watered now that it's getting hot.

Probably the best & easiest thing to do is go to a local nursery and talk to someone who works there and just buy what they are selling or start seeds as soon as possible.  Cooks greenhouse is on 1600 N in Orem, on Geneva Rd (go west, under I-15).  I'm not sure how much help you'd get at Lowes or Home Depot and Lindon Walmart was out of most things last time I went (again, not the best place to get help).  Now is a good time to be planting a lot of types of veggies, most will really grow quickly now that it is warming up.  It's probably too late for lettuces and peas and I haven't been able to find strawberry plants anymore.

Have fun gardening!  If nothing else, you can always just buy a pot, some good potting soil, and a tomato plant or two and enjoy tomatoes on your patio this summer!
