I NEVER met a sale I didn't like!

« on: September 25, 2008, 09:25:25 PM »

I just found out that Albertsons is considering no longer accepting ANY printable coupons!!!  Cry

There were way too many printed for the Malt O Meal sale and now a coupon from www.eatbetteramerica.com for $1.00/1 Muir Glen product-which was not posted on this website! (Which makes the Muir Glen tomatoes free) is being printed up to 40 times per person.  I have been told Spanish Fork, Provo and Orem stores, as well as ALL Albertsons may no longer accept printables due to another specific website promoting multiple printings. I'll get a confirmation on this soon I hope.

There is quite a bit a fraud or perceived fraud happening right now with printables.  It's sad if it ends for all of us.  I was told that a another website was promoting high volume printings and that was specifically why they were going to stop accepting them.

So, just an FYI - Even if a site allows you to print 50 coupons you should not do so.  Coupons are posted by companies for limited use.  Even if you have done this is the past - we can all learn and move forward knowing how coupons work.

That's why I love this site.  We can help each other do better and shop smarter.

Thanks everyone for all your great posts and we'll hope Albertsons doesn't stop accepting printables. But if they do, please be understanding.  They likely will not get reimbursed for a lot of these coupons.

Also, I was told by the pharmacy that starting Oct 1, Albertson's Pharmacys were no longer accepting competitor coupons. They said it was all locations. I was at the 1600 N location.

Wouldn't it make more sense if Albertsons just allowed two printables per product type, since that's whats allowed? It would be really easy for the cashiers to regulate that, becuase a cashier should know if they're scanning 40 printable coupons  Smiley

It doesn't surprise me.  Durring the Malt O Meal sale there were people taking in over 100 coupons that had been COPPIED (not just multiples printed, but actually coppied)!!!  When I was there, there were 2 ladies stocking up with all coppied coupons.  Free cereal is great, but not when it's stealing or illegal.  (IMO when you copy coupons you are stealing from the store because they don't get reimbursed Undecided)

I happened to take 4 printables yesterday and my store took them.  They were printed in color and I only had 2 of 1 and 1 of 2 other coupons.  I'm glad my store still took them though.  It'll be a bummer when they stop.

It has been confirmed.  Most UTAH COUNTY Albertsons will not accept printables as of right now.  This could change (Ie..limiting the # accepted)

I have to say, I'm sad this has happened, but understand Albertsons response.  Fraud is fraud!  If you know ANYONE who photocopies printables please tell them it is NOT ok!!!  Not only were photocopied printables included, but I actually saw photocopies of BOGUS "high-value" coupons people were making on their computers. $4.00 on Juice, $4.50 on Coke, etc...  Sad!

This is actually very frustrating! I spend $400 a month on groceries and household items for a family of 7. The cost of living just keeps increasing but our income is not, so I really rely on my coupons and I love the printables. Especially when Albertsons has their big sales. I print the number allowed and that's what I use. It really makes me angry that a few greedy people have ruined it for the rest of us that are just trying to make ends meet.

I don't understand why it's a problem for the store if we print a lot of coupons.  They get reimbursed plus get a few cents more.  So if I print 20 Muir Glen tomatoe coupons and get them for "free" the store gets paid even more than if I had paid for them myself.  What's the problem?  I'm NOT talking about the copied coupons but the legitimate ones for which Albertsons will be paid.

Just an idea but maybe everyone should go and talk to the managers (or e-mail them) and suggest (if this is true for you like it is me) that some people only shop at Albertson's for their sale items and they buy MORE when they're able to use coupons. And that you'd still shop there even if they had a reasonable limit of IP's per visit?

Might work! Good or bad idea? Would it do any good?

And I personally feel that the company who puts their coupons online to be printed should make it so we can't print out more than a couple (like Boodle and Smart Source, etc.). They should know that some people will print as many as they want or can (especially if it's a high value coupon).

I'd think you could tell the difference between a printed coupon from a copied, printed coupon? Maybe it depends on how good the printer\scanner is? They're probably using a copy machine! I'm proud to say I've never seen one! Although, I have to admit that a few coupons I've printed haven't looked very good because my ink was running out...now I'm going to be nervous if they don't look perfect (in color, no streaking, etc.) that they'll think mine is copied. But I guess the people that are copying them probably wouldn't use one that didn't look "perfect" because they know they're trying to get away with it and wouldn't want to raise any suspicion...but the cashiers might not think of that... okay..just thinking out loud now!  Smiley

I just think that the stores need to have a policy of using X amount and stick to it. That would discourage people from doing what they're doing and they won't think they can get away with copying 50 coupons.. It's good for the store to take printables (or any coupon) because they do get reimbursed and it gets people to buy more. It's a win win situation if they'd just make a policy and enforce it.
Too bad some people have to ruin it for the rest of us!  angry5

Sadly enough I think that there are some out there that once they get a good deal want to make it even better NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES!!  I really feel sorry for the stores and can understand why they have stopped. I think that we need to realize that they have been the victims of fraud and be grateful that we can still use our coupon inserts at their stores.  I am disappointed too, but realize that they have a bottom line to make in these trying times just like the rest of us, their jobs rely on profits too.  Thanks Savvy for helping us use legitimate coupons!!!!!!

I was at the Lehi Albertsons tonight and I asked the cashier (I didn't have time to find a manager) if they stopped taking IP's and she said no, that they just won't be taking fake\copied ones (which I thought was kind of funny for her to say ). She didn't say anything about a limit.

Anyone else hear anything?

I asked at Spanish Fork today and they said they were still taking them, just not for the Malt-O-Meal cereal.  She also asked a manager and she said the same.  I showed the cashier how to tell if the printables are real or copies.  She had never been told this!  I think the stores should train their people to know the difference- then they would save themselves and all of us the problems!   Wink

Can you get waterproof ink for printers? I was looking into this once along time ago when I was printing graphics and things for scrapbook pages and I couldn't find any. If you can, then this might not work but if you take a wet cotton swab and get the ink wet on printable it will smear. If they do this when the coupons are questionable then they'd know if they were copied on a copy machine. Copy machine ink does not smear...(at least on the page I just got wet that I know was photocopied at church). I wonder if they've thought of this?
