Valid through 9/23/06
This is a great week to go to Rite Aid to get the "Hard Candy" that you need for your 72 hour kit! The LifeSavers Creme Savers Bagged Candy 2.75 - 7 oz. bags are on sale and with the coupon you can get them for .24 a bag! Jolly Ranchers are not something you should keep in your 72 hour kit - they get sticky after just a short time. The Creme Savers would be a wonderful choice!

A lot of times you can get trial size toiletres (Shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, etc) for free with coupons. And they would be the perfect size for a 72 hour kit!!! Keep your eyes on your coupons (look for ones that don't have a size specification one it) and the trial size stuff!

it's also a good idea to include some kind of medical face mask/surgical mask to protect yourself and children from germs of fallout.
We also each have fannypacks/waistpacks that contain immediate needs things that we will have readily available so we don't have to dig around in our bigger 72 hour kits for. We have a little potable water, medications, face mask, light stick, whistle, chapstick, sample size sunscreen/insect repellant wipe and kleenex. You could put other things to if you deemed them immediate needs. Adult fannypacks have some $. I found shoulder to waist type sling packs for my younger son and nieces at the dollar store.

I know this might sound a little
crazy
, but our family each has a gas mask. They are military issued and sold @ most "survival" or "prepardness" stores. They weren't too expensive, I think $20.00 each, but something that hopefully will never need to be used or replaced.

Nicole,
TOO FUNNY!!!
I don't think it's crazy, but I didn't want to put that either.
LOL
we actually have those, too! Most people that aren't familiar with 72 hour kits will not think "surgical masks for germs" are a crazy idea, but you mention "gas masks" and I've gotten some strange looks.
