How do some of you do it? You come out of the store paying practically nothing. I went to Mervyn's today. When I got home there were several things I didn't want that I ended up paying for. Also I find Smith's really tricky as far as knowing how much to buy in order to get the sales, and Albertsons always has the buy ten thing. I am hoping you can give some some couponing and shopping tips, so that I can get better organized and enjoy shopping! Thanks!

This has happened to me too, where I end up paying too much for something that I thought was a great deal.  But, as I have become more organized and prepared before I go into the store, I have had better luck.  I really don't even look at items that I might never use and focus on the items we go through so often (ie. cereal, shampoo, toilet paper.  And, if it helps, go at a time when you can go alone and really focus on what you're doing...take a calculator and concentrate on what you're doing.  I know that if I have my two younger girls with me, I end up not really paying attention and just hurrying through to get out of the store.  I have gotten my best deals when I have been alone and able to think through what I am doing.  Keep Plugging Away!  It gets easier!

Make sure you don't buy things you don't need!  I didn't get the good deal on salad dressing, because I like to make my own (and the coupons expired! Cheesy) As for the Mervyn's problem, take back all the stuff you don't need.  You'll notice on your receipt that there is a return price even though it was buy 1 get 2 free.  So you can still take it back and get a few dollars back.  Bargain shopping can give you a "high" when you get a really good deal, but just make sure that it's what you use, because otherwise, it's not a good deal at all.

One thing that I do is decide what I need BEFORE I go to the store.  I make a list of exactly what I am going to buy - especially when it is one of the sales where you have to buy a certain number of items in order to get the really good deal.  If I don't feel like I will use that many items or there are things that I think that I would buy just because it is a "good deal", I don't take advantage of the sale.  Just remember that it doesn't matter how much you spend/save, if you don't use it, it is not a good deal.

In addition to what Stea mentioned, I will have my coupons organized with a list (the printable version of Amy's email works great) BEFORE you go into the store.  I circle exactly what I am going in the store for, and I write the number of each item on my list that I am planning on buying to get the deal (this is really helpful with the Albertsons sale).  That way, you know before you go into the store, that you are buying 5 cereals, 3 chips, and 2 dressings (for example).  And, you have the coupons ready in the front of your binder ready for checkout.  Hope this helps!

Be patient with yourself.  It takes time and practice to coupon.  I still mess things up sometimes, especially when I have my kids with me. Wink  Things I would recommend: try to keep your coupons cut and filed, ALWAYS take your binder when shopping, use the Shopping Wizard to make your list, if you haven't gone to one of Amy's classes yet, try to do so ASAP.  It will help a lot.  Organize your coupons in a binder- no other method works as well!   Cheesy

Again, be patient.  You will learn and we are all here to help answer questions. I LOVE sharing this info with others!  It is addicting!
