I was in Walgreen's On 6-13-08 to purchase band-aids.  I had 10 coupons for $1 off.  They were 99 cents.
There were only 2 on the shelf.  I brought them to the register and gave the 2 coupons.  The clerk said
rang them through and it took only one coupon.  The clerk said that was all I could use was one.  I said
ok and had her ring up the other box and use the coupon and it was denied by the register.  The clerk
said I couldn't use the coupon because the store would be paying me to shop there.  I didn't argue with
her, I just asked for the manager.  The manager tried 3 times to ring it using the coupon and being denied
all 3 times.  My question if for future use.  How can i tell them to make to coupon work when the coupon
is for more than the sale price.  Thanks.  Al

The same thing happened to me at Walgreens this week.  I had 4 coupons, and they only let me use 3 coupons for four of the band-aids.  There was a line behind me, and I had two kids with me, so I didn't argue and just got them.  But that is definitely something a coupon policy I have never heard of before.

There are a lot of stores that will not take any coupons for more than the amount of the item.  It really depends on your cashier if they will take them or not.  Some cashier will just refuse your coupon, others will adjust the price of the coupon to match the price of the item, and others will give you full value for your coupon.  YMMV

If they adjust the coupon, they are supposed to write the new amount on the coupon. Most don't, so they get reimbursed the FULL amount of the coupon - it doesn't matter what you pay for it.

The only time that I have had problems is when that is the only thing that I am buying and the store would actually have to give me money or the ticket would end in a negative. If I am buying other things and still owe the store money then all of the coupons come off just fine. I hope that makes sense.

I run into this all the time, but don't honestly think I've had much trouble.  I tell the checkers up front that my coupon is over the product purchase price so they are prepared to override the coupon.  You are right though- they do get the full value if they don't write on the coupon.

Has anyone tried using these coupons specifically at Walmart? I know at Albertsons they won't take the coupon if its for more than the product, but what happens at Walmart?  I never try because I don't want to end up paying more for the product if I can't use the coupon....

Shopping with coupons at Wal Mart is always a crap shoot - you never know if they will or won't accept the coupon.  You can try and then if they won't accept it, you ask them to take the item off your order.

I think at most stores is just depends on the cashiers. They CAN override the coupons and "push it through" by hitting one button but you have to remember that if you are using two $1.00 coupons for just two .99 items you have to get something else with it or I don't think they can "push it through" if they try...your subtotal total will be in the negative.  Just get something small or some thing you need...
