If you go to consumer reports you can see which detergent is a best buy. It notes "First, choose a detergent that's right for your type of washer. Manufacturers recommend HE products for front-loading washers and high-efficiency top-loaders because those detergents are made to work with smaller volumes of water. Use conventional detergents in a conventional top-loading machine because HE formulas would be too weak. Then see which products fit your budget. Among the lower-cost good choices are Cheer 2X Concentrated Color Guard for High Efficiency HE, Gain 2x Concentrated Original Fresh HE, Tide 2X Concentrated Coldwater, and Gain 2X Ultra Concentrated with Bleach Alternative." I agree on tide for whites and lights.  I even think it does much better getting the stains out of my bright and darks.  The problem I am having with Tide is it is fading my darks and brights.  My sisters son has the same superman t-shirt as my son, they even got them at the same time, but her sons is so much brighter than mine I was shocked when I noticed.  When I asked her about it she said she uses Surf on her darks and brights.  I love the smell of surf!  But I am so cheap that I am looking for something really super inexpensive that does fade clothes like the Tide I have been using.  Any suggestions?  I just want it all, super cheap, super cleaning power,....!! HA HA.

I haven't noticed my colors fading with the Purex. If I had dark underwear I probably wouldn't have noticed it! Smiley

I love Purex and the fact that we get coupons for it all the time helps a lot. It's been great so far for us.

Does anyone using Purex have people in their families with sensitve skin. I have tried using off brands before and my husband breaks out in hives. The only brands that I have had luck with so far is Tide, All, and Gain. I don't want to buys a whole buch of it when its on sale and then end up having to wash my husbands clothes sepratly until I run out. Thanks so much for your help everyone.
