Hello everyone,
I tried a couple of months ago with the whole coupon thing but then got frustrated with it and felt like I was not doing it right. We are on a tight budget like most of us and my pantry is really low. I felt like I was at the grocery store and thumbing though the coupons and trying to keep my kids with me and not accomplishing anything.I got really frustrated because I couldn't find if I had the coupon and eventually gave up. I was wondering how do I get started? I would love to say I have a $600 dollar grocery bill and only paid $150.00 for all of it. I cant even imagine the happiness!

When you tried it before, did you use the Savvy shopper website?  Have you watched the free training videos?  I recommend that you get a binder and use the binder method, it is the best! (I take my binder everywhere!)  I can say that the more organized your coupons the more money you will save.  I started couponing 3 1/2 mths ago, and have saved a ton, and my pantry is now overflowing.  (My husband had to build me shelves for all our new food storage)  The forum is a great resource for coupon questions.  Just get on and someone will answer your questions.  I also have to say that I am in a location where I can go to pretty much any store, but it does get exhausting trying to hit every store every week for the best price.  Now that my food storage is full, I go to one store usually, unless it is a REALLY great deal. If I know I need something at a particular store (say Target) then I will go onto the Shopping Wizard and look at the WOW deals and maybe add some other items, since I am already going, why not?  This is the best program since it is local and the shopping wizard is great for so many reasons, if you haven't used it I suggest you get on and look around and get familiar with how it works.  It is AWESOME!  I hope this helps.  Nothing is better motivation then saving money and getting more stuff.   Smiley Smiley Smiley

I have found that repetition, ORGANIZATION!! and the forum for questions is my only hope Smiley Having kids and shopping together are difficult. I pre-shop on line with the shopping wizard per store (or go in store to find the deals first). Then I make my list, put all appropriate coupons in a bag in my binder and then I shop. If the item is not there simply get a rain check and right the item on my following weeks list right then. I have found that if I am thoroughly organized it makes it a breeze. My final hope is the forum I always check there for freebies and GREAT deals others have found, I stick to one store unless someone posts something amazing. I also count my coupons before I pay and check them on the receipt before I leave. If ever a problem after you have left there is a 1800 number on your receipt and they will help you out. Smiley I also am a big fan of watching the grocery store adds to see what is on SALE that week then it is easier to match up coupons. You begin to know your coupons from flipping the pages and organizing them it helps a ton to see them all clearly.

Thanks a bunch! Here goes nothing. I am hoping I can get the great deals like what I hear about all the time. I just went to the store and spent 250.00 I think to myself if I would have started the coupon thing I bet you I would have paid way less than that. Anyways, thanks ladies! Have a great week, Angie

I think also that in the beginning you spend a little more, or at least I did because I had no food storage and so when things went on WOW sale I would stock up. But now that I have a back stock of things I don't have to buy it unless it is a crazy good deal (like free) or if I am getting low. I also second the organization thing. My little boy has an attention span of like 2 minutes so I have to bust it through the store. So I make my list, and pull all of the coupons before I go, but still take my binder in case I find unexpected sales and deals. I save so much now that it makes me physically sick to pay full price for things.

I agree that organization is the only way to do this with small kids.  I have to take my two little ones with me to the store and they are trying to scan everything, put things in the cart - it's quite a scene.  The only way I can do it, especially on complicated sales where you have to spend so much to get a catalina, etc., is I write out what I am going to buy, how much it should cost and paper clip the coupons to the paper.  I do this for each transaction so I can go up to the register and have it already figured out.  It is so hard to concentrate on getting the "deal" correct with my little helpers.  It takes a bit of work, but the rewards are so worth it.  Stick to it and it will get easier.  Smiley

Don't give up it take time of to learn all the different way to use your coupons to get the best deals. You may want to try shopping a few time later in the evening when maybe your kids can be babysat. The stores are not as busy in the evening and you can take time without feeling rushed. When you make a list put what you are going after and then what you can substitute if they don't have it that is also a good price. Hopefully this will help it not be so frustrating. It really just takes doing it like anything else the more you do it the better you get at it. Your awesome for giving it another go I know it benefits my family and can help yours to.

Sorry about writing such a long novel. icon_flower

I just want to let you know that you are not alone!!! We all had to start somewhere. I have been couponing for 8 months now and I still remember my first really horrible shopping trip. My baby was hungry and screaming her head off. It was late at night, I couldn't think or find the right items. By the time I paid for everything in my cart, my total shocked me! I must have grabbed the wrong items because I had spent all of our weeks grocery money on just soup and cereal. It did not amount to what I thought it would be. I got out to the car and called my husband crying. He encouraged me to go back in and return the items no matter how embarrassed I felt. Luckily the manager was super nice and made me feel a lot better over my mistake. The next few weeks weren't as bad but I still kept learning as I shopped. It's so much easier now! I am so glad that I stuck with it. Our pantry and freezers are completely stocked and we have saved tons of money. Just a side note, my husband and I have set aside one night a week where I shop kid free and that has really helped!!! Maybe when they are older it will be easier but for right now with two kids under the age of 2...

In last Sunday's paper we received 3 coupons from Albertson's to "Double" the price of a coupon up to $1.  It means that essentially instead of getting $1 off an item, you'll get $2 off. Smiley  To do it, you take your coupons to Albertsons, along with the Albertsons coupons that will "double" the amount and give them to the cashier with your purchase.

I bought 22 Juice Box Packages and 7 Bags of Pretzels for $.54 today because I had coupons and doubled them.  (I did several shopping trips.)
