Crescent Mummy Dogs

Prep Time: 30 min ; Start to Finish: 50 min
Makes: 12 sandwiches

Hot dogs are all wrapped up in a classic recipe for Halloween...or anytime a chuckle is in order.

1 can (8 oz) Pillsbury refrigerated crescent dinner rolls (8 count)
2 1/2 slices (2.5 oz) American cheese slices, quartered
10 large hot dogs
 Cooking spray
 Mustard or ketchup, if desired

1 .   Heat oven to 375 F. Unroll dough; separate at perforations creating 4 rectangles; press perforations to seal. With knife or kitchen scissors, cut each rectangle lengthwise into 10 pieces, making a total of 40 pieces of dough. Slice cheese slices into quarters (1/2 slice cheese, cut in half).
2 .   Wrap 4 pieces of dough around each hot dog and 1/4 slice of cheese to look like "bandages," stretching dough slightly to completely cover hot dog. About 1/2 inch from one end of each hot dog, separate "bandages" so hot dog shows through for "face." On ungreased large cookie sheet, place wrapped hot dogs (cheese side down); spray dough lightly with cooking spray.
3 .   Bake 13 to 17 minutes or until dough is light golden brown and hot dogs are hot. With mustard, draw features on "face."

CHEESE FINGERS

INGREDIENTS:
 Mozzarella string cheese
 Green bell pepper
 Cream cheese
 1. Wearing plastic gloves or sandwich bags over your hands to keep the cheese as smudge-free as possible, use a paring knife (parents only) to cut each string in half and then carve a shallow area for a fingernail just below the rounded end of each half.

 2. Mark the joint right below the nail as well as the knuckle joint by carving out tiny horizontal wedges of cheese, as pictured.

 3. For the fingernails, slice a green bell pepper into 3/8-inch-wide strips. Set the strips skin side down on your work surface and trim the pulp so that it's about half as thick. Then cut the strips into ragged-topped nail shapes and stick them in place at the ends of the fingers with dabs of cream cheese.

You can also use Slivered Almonds for the fingernails and it looks even more realistic! - Amy

PUTRID PUNCH!!

THIS PUNCH LOOKS GROSS, BUT TASTES YUMMY!

PUTRID PUNCH:
1 13-oz. package lemon-lime Kool-Aid
1 cup sugar
8 cups water
1 can frozen orange juice concentrate
4 cups ginger ale
Worm cubes (ice cubes with gummy worms frozen inside)
3 scoops orange sherbert

This sick-colored punch looks disgusting but tastes divine. Empty the Kool-Aid package into a punch bowl. Add the sugar, then the water and stir until dissolved. Stir in the orange juice. Just before serving, add the ginger ale and worm cubes and float the scoops of sherbert on top. Before long, the punch will be green and infested with worms. Serves 14.

Sweet Scarecrows:

These autumn treats are so adorable and easy to assemble, they won't scare anyone away. In fact, set out a batch, and kids are sure to flock to them.

INGREDIENTS:
Cookies (ours were about 2 1/2 inches in diameter)
   White frosting
Assorted sugar wafers (ours were about 2 1/2 inches long)
   Candy corn
   Mini chocolate chips
Bran cereal (we used Kellogg's All-Bran Extra Fiber)
   Chocolate sprinkles

1. Frost the top of each cookie.

2. Cut a sugar wafer in half. Add a dollop of frosting to the top edge of the cookie and stick a wafer half to it for a hat top, as shown.

3. Place a whole sugar wafer just below the hat top for a brim. Use a little more frosting to decorate it with slices of candy corn or mini chocolate chips.

4. Press pieces of bran cereal hair into the frosting around the hat.

5. For the face, press on a candy corn nose, mini chocolate chip eyes, and a chocolate sprinkle stitched mouth.

Carrot Finger Food:

Hungry goblins will love getting their hands on these crunchy carrot snacks.
INGREDIENTS:
   vegetable dip
   4 long carrots
   1 medium carrot
   softened cream cheese
   sliced-almond
   baby carrots

1. To prepare them, just fill a serving bowl with your favorite vegetable dip. Wash and peel 4 long carrots for fingers and 1 medium carrot for a thumb.

2. With a paring knife (a parent's job), cut a flat, shallow notch in the tip of each carrot. Then use a dab of dip or softened cream cheese to glue a sliced-almond fingernail atop each notch.

3. Stick the fingers in the dip, as shown, and serve with plenty of peeled baby carrots for dipping.

Pumpkin Treats:

This isn't neccesarily a recipe as much as an idea - but super easy for school!

Can you keep a secret? It ought to come in handy. Inside this little pumpkin lies a treasure trove of candy.

INGREDIENTS

2/3 cup of assorted candies, such as candy corn and chocolate kisses
Plastic sandwich bag
10-inch square of orange tissue paper (double layer)
Two 10-inch pieces of raffia
Green pipe cleaner
Pencil

DIRECTIONS

1. Put the candy in the plastic sandwich bag.

2. Place the bag in the center of the doubled tissue paper square. Pull the corners of the tissue together at the top and twist them into a stem.

3. To hold the tissue in place, wrap both pieces of raffia around the base of the stem and knot them.

4. To make the stem tendrils, wrap the ends of the pipe cleaner around a pencil. Twist the center of the curled pipe cleaner around the base of the stem as shown.
