Following the rules of couponing benefits everyone PDF Print E-mail

The Savvy Shopper grocery saving program recently passed its six-month anniversary date. Over the past six months I have met some wonderful people through this program. I love hearing your success stories.

With the growth of this program, I have some observations on store policy I would like to share.

First, rainchecks can be a couponer's best friend. We do have many people using this program. If you do find an empty shelf, do not hesitate to get a raincheck. I would also encourage people to remember to "share the wealth." Even if you have more coupons than items on the shelf, if possible, please moderate your purchases and only purchase a few. This will allow more people to enjoy success as well.

On that note, however, I have heard that several stores are stepping up their product ordering in response to the demand of the Savvy Shopper program. This is great news! I do know how frustrating it is to consistently have stores that do not have the products offered in their ad, and personally know people that no longer shop in certain stores, no matter how good the ad is, because of consistent problems with stock.

Stores that bump up their ordering will have happy customers who return time and time again.

Second, I have some exciting news to share -- Macey's in Orem has made a policy change and is now accepting printable Internet manufacturer coupons. Many legitimate coupons are now offered on the Internet and Macey's realizes the value of accepting those coupons.

Laurianne Stevenson, the Orem Little Theater coordinator, does add this caution: "If copying were to occur again, our store director would again not allow them at the store." Photo-copying Internet coupons voids the coupon. Just as you would not copy a coupon from the Sunday Daily Herald coupon inserts, you should not copy an Internet printable coupon. Misusing coupons could lead to stores restricting usage.

Please follow all coupon rules. If you have any questions about coupon rules or usage, please contact me.

These past six months have been exciting -- couponing can allow people to stretch their grocery dollars as well as providing security and peace of mind with the additional groceries we are able to purchase.

Not only does this help the consumer, it is a win for the grocery stores as well because they are selling more product. Kudos to the grocery stores that are responding to this great program and working with the consumer to make this a win-win situation for all of us.
