Recently, I learned of a program sponsored by the Timpanogos Regional Food Bank.
This program, "Share the Harvest," is a wonderful opportunity to share our bounties. Do you have extra produce from your garden? The Food Bank would love donations.
I have typically thought of the donations made to the Food Bank as canned and grocery items.
The "Share the Harvest" program allows individuals to share produce from their garden.
Families and individuals who are struggling to make ends meet tend to steer away from the produce department of the grocery store. Volunteers at the Timpanogos Regional Food Bank recently shared that they will see children who come in to the center and, instead of reaching for sugared items, reach for fresh produce.
The Food Bank is currently accepting donations of fresh fruit and produce. If you don't have a garden, there are a variety of local farmers markets that have great prices on produce. Simply pick up some extra produce and drop it off at the Food Bank.
The Timpanogos Regional Food Bank is located at 815 S. Freedom Blvd. in Provo. The hours of donation are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Food Bank cannot accept home-bottled products due to health code regulations, or produce that has bugs. Also, please bring your donations in disposable containers such as plastic or brown paper bags or boxes.
Using the Savvy Shopper grocery saving program can save you hundreds of dollars at the grocery store. Let's use some of that savings to help those in need.
